As I’m finalizing plans for a summer weekend of camping and trail racing, it’s hard not to see how incredibly convenient and resourceful it will be to have the YETI Roadie Wheeled Cooler on hand at our campsite.

If you’ve ever been to a Trail Ragnar Relay, getting there early and securing a good campsite is half the fun. I’ve participated in a couple of them, and the problem is, the spot where you unload gear from your car can be a few hundred yards from where you actually set up your tent, stove, and hammock for the night. This summer, I’ll be doing a two-person Black Loop Ragnar Relay with my wife, which means that we have even fewer hands than normal to haul our gear to the campsite.

Which is why I love the Roadie Wheeled Cooler. Available in 48- and 60-liter sizes, this cooler literally takes a big weight off your shoulders and puts all of your favorite food-stuffs in an easy-to-roll wheeled hardside cooler. It beats carrying a traditional cooler by the handles, which is what I have had to do at past Ragnars.

I mean, when a cooler is full with burgers, brats, ice, drinks and all the fixin’s, it’s heavy!

My preferred Roadie Wheeled Cooler is the 60-liter version, because it can hold more than 50 drink cans and has the same level of durability and ice retention as YETI’s super-popular Tundra series. There’s truly a lot that can be packed into this cooler, and it’s not hard to imagine being able to easily and safely transport fresh veggies for Thursday night fajitas, eggs and bacon for breakfasts, and burgers for that weird late-night craving between race legs when you’re too amped up to sleep.

While the 48-liter version certainly works for a lot of people, the 60-liter one has some nuanced yet welcome design features, such as a leakproof drain plug, sizing for wine bottles and two-liter soda bottles and one-handed quick-latch access. Both sizes are available in Charcoal, Navy and White, while the 48-liter cooler can also be bought in Rescue Red.

Much like with a suitcase that you wheel through the airport, the Roadie has a comfortable retractable handle. And its wheels are a solid, single-piece construction that are impact- and puncture-resistant — so no need to fret about dragging it over the sharp rocks or uneven terrain. It also has PermaFrost Insulation, tie-down slots and a rugged hinge system.

Especially if you’re taking the Roadie Wheeled Cooler to an event like a Ragnar or to a multi-day festival, there are several accessories that can help to keep your things organized and that add a lot of versatility to your cooler. Items such as interior dividers, cup caddies or a dry basket will help keep things from getting out of hand.

Of course, there are gobs of practical reasons that this cooler works in so many situations. But YETI also does right by its customers with shipping (free if you spend more than $25), as well as having a five-year warranty and free returns. If you opt to get one of the Roadie Wheeled Coolers, you can find them on YETI’s website at this link.
