Applications are open for an adventure of a lifetime: The 2024 Fjällräven Polar is bringing together 20 people from across the globe for a 300-kilometer dog sledding expedition across the Scandinavian Arctic tundra. This is the 19th year that the weeklong all-inclusive event is being held as a way to celebrate winter outdoor life for people who want to embrace the wilderness even more.

The application period is going on now through Nov. 19, 2023. You can begin the application process here

The expedition — which goes from April 2 to 8, 2024 — starts in the Jukkasjärvi area of Swedish Lapland, around 17 kilometers east of Kiruna. Participants will travel north through Sevujärvi, Kattuvuoma, Råstojaure and Pältsa — one of Europe’s largest areas of permafrost — before finishing at the edge of the Norwegian fjords in Signaldalen.

Sweden based closing brand Fjällräven will pay for all travel costs to and from Fjällräven Polar, as well as all expenses during the expedition. The winner announcement is Dec. 11.

The Fjällräven Polar has been “for curious, everyday people. It sounded crazy. Taking a group of people without wilderness skills or experience into one of the world’s harshest environments: the Arctic tundra. But Fjällräven believed that with the right support, gear, and mindset, this adventure was for everyone,” the company said.

Over the years, participants have faced everything from blizzards and minus 30°C temperatures, to the beautiful, sun-drenched landscapes of the Arctic tundra. For a few lucky people, Fjällräven Polar is the opportunity to test their limits. Aside from impacting the lives of about 420 people since 1997, Fjällräven Polar has become a viral success online. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit the Fjällräven Polar website, and thousands have applied for the chance to join this expedition.

In 2022 alone, nearly 15,000 people from all over the world applied. Twenty people are selected.

To apply, you must first fill out the application form on the Fjällräven Experience Hub with basic information. This step is mandatory — applications won’t be processed unless this step has been completed. Then applicants should respond to three challenges, released weekly. Applicants should respond to these challenges by uploading videos, images or text to Instagram and tagging @fjallravenofficial, #FjallravenPolar2024, and the challenge number: #Challenge1, #Challenge2 or #Challenge3.

“The jury would love to see you be as authentic as possible,” Fjällräven said. “Creativity comes in many shapes and forms, so feel free to express yourself, as long as you respond to all three challenges.”

Challenge No. 1 is available now, the second will come out Nov. 6, and the third Nov. 13.

Fjällräven Polar is for anyone who wants to apply. This is a challenging event, mostly because of the conditions, so applicants should have a reasonable level of fitness. They must also be over the age of 18, be able to speak English, and have an open and flexible, learning mindset.
