ACR Electronics, Inc. Selected to Provide Personal Locator Beacons to the RNLI

ACR Electronics, Inc., a leader in safety and signaling technologies, announced today they have been selected to provide ACR Personal Locator Beacons for the lifeboat crews of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The RNLI has saved approximately 140,000 lives in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland waters since 1824.

ACR’s ResQLink Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was recently selected as the product of choice by the RNLI to keep their lifeboat crews safe.  Chosen because of its superior operational and technical performance and single handed re-useable antenna deployment, the ACR ResQLink will be issued to all lifeboat crew members for fitment to their life jackets. The courageous volunteers of the RNLI who selflessly put the requirements of others before their own will now have the additional protection of ACR PLBs. The ACR ResQLink transmits a 406 MHz distress signal with GPS positional data through the global Cospas-Sarsat satellite system to Search and Rescue forces worldwide.

“Carried out mainly by volunteers, the RNLI is an outstanding organization known for its dedication to lifesaving services. ACR shares a similar mission; designing and manufacturing products that have been saving lives worldwide not only in maritime, but also in the aviation and terrestrial markets, since 1956,” said Michael Wilkerson, CEO of ACR Electronics, Inc.  “For ACR to have an organization of lifesavers select one of our products for its quality and performance is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees, who work vigorously to design and produce quality products, knowing they are used to save lives.”

The RNLI is a charity and works alongside government-controlled and funded coastguard services. It has an active fleet of over 340 lifeboats that provide a 24/7 search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland from 236 stations; with 4,600 lifeboat crew volunteers.
