Video Released of Tony Hawk, Celebrities Riding “Hoverboard”

In what seems to be a case of unique marketing, YouTube user HUVr released a video of celebrities like Tony Hawk and Moby riding “hoverboards” while providing commentary about the “baffling technology.”

Featured in the short video is Christopher Lloyd who played Dr. Emmett Brown in Back to the Future, Back to the Future II, where a hoverboard is first used, and Back to the Future III.

The YouTube video is simply titled “BELIEF” with a description reading “They’re here,” along with a link to the HUVr website.

The “About Us” page on the HUVr website reads as follows.

What began as a summer project in 2010 at the MIT Physics Graduate Program has evolved into one of the most exciting independent products to be developed out of MIT since the high-powered lithium-ion batteries developed by Yet-Ming Chiang in 2001. Our team consists of materials science, electricity & magnetism experts who’ve solved an important part of one of science’s mysteries: the key to antigravity.

The HUVr Board team ultimately aims to improve the efficiency, speed and sustainability of mass transportation. Yet rather than spend several more years closed off from the world while investing in research and development, the team and our world-class investors have worked to change the economics R&D by marketing this exciting consumer product in order to fund ongoing R&D.

In addition to the YouTube video, Hawk uploaded a video on Instagram of him using the board, accompanied by the statement, “HOVERBOARDS ARE REAL!”

While most of the YouTube users who have commented on the video recognize that the clip is a prank, many go on to speculate what exactly it’s advertising, whether it be another movie or the Back to the Future musical Rolling Stone reported has been confirmed for 2015.
