The La Sportiva Vapor Nano ski has earned three top editorial awards heading into the winter of 2014-2015. The ski earned “Editor’s Choice” honors from Backcountry, “Skier’s Choice” from Powder, and “Editor’s Pick” from Freeskier. The awards from Powder and Freeskier represent the first time a ski product from La Sportiva has earned accolades in those outlets, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s ski program.

“While firmly rooted in our ski mountaineering heritage, we knew when we started the Vapor Nano project here in the US that it would have appeal to more than just backcountry skiers,” says Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva. “Some of the ski testers were surprised to see La Sportiva even enter these tests, but they were even more surprised by how well our skis performed, especially given their lightweight design.”

According to Backcountry, “Usually with skis in the ultralight category, weight loss is correlated with lower ski performance, but somehow these manage to retain the characteristics of a hard-charging slayer.”

With a weight of just 1,200 grams, the Vapor Nano’s carbon nanotube construction is dramatically lighter than traditional wood core skis, but maintains torsional stiffness for high-speed edge control.

Powder added, “Vapor this and Nano that… it seems as though you should have top-secret clearance to ride this thing.” After a week of testing in Jackson Hole, during which some of the industry’s best skiers clicked into the Vapor Nano with traditional alpine boots and bindings, the testers at Powder awarded it “Skier’s Choice.”

Last but not least, Freeskier chimed in with, “this directional ski lightens the load on your adventures both in and out of resort boundaries; one tester even suggested renaming the brand to ‘La Sweet Ski!’ The 103-mm footprint provides enough girth to float above the deep stuff off-piste.”

Available now at retailers and direct from sportiva.com, the La Sportiva Vapor Nano is part of a collection of numerous new styles of ski mountaineering hard goods and apparel. The line includes an updated version of the Spectre boot, which has won Editor’s Choice from Backcountry two years running, and the accessible Syborg ski mountaineering boots and skis. In addition, a full line of winter apparel, ranging from down and synthetic insulation to soft and hard shell outwear is available.
