Mountain & Trail Press Release

Attitash Mountain Resort Set to Open New ZipTour this Saturday, September 13

The Flying Bear Zip span from the summit of Bear Peak to Attitash Mountain is the longest, single zip span currently in the contiguous United States.

Attitash Mountain Resort has long been recognized as New England’s original summer & fall fun ski area with the Alpine Slide, still the longest in North America, first opening to the public in 1976. Since then Attitash Mountain Resort has added many more attractions including the Mount Washington Valley’s longest mountain coaster and New Hampshire’s first free-fall Airbag Jump. This Saturday, September 13, Attitash will introduce its new ZipTour attraction featuring the Flying Bear and Attitash Aerial Zip Lines.

“We are excited to introduce another major new attraction to the Mount Washington Valley,” said President of Attitash Mountain Resort and Wildcat Mountain John Lowell. ZipTour is a zipline experience where the rider has the ability to control their speed. With parallel cables allowing two people to fly at the same time, the experience will include riding two major zip lines along with an initial training span. The Flying Bear Zip will be just under 5,000 feet long and will start at the summit of Bear Peak. From there, it will cross over the valley between the two mountains from Bear Peak to mid-mountain of Attitash reaching heights up to 250 feet off the ground with riders reaching speeds capable in excess of 65 miles per hour. The Flying Bear Zip will currently be the longest single span zip line in the contiguous United States. After that, riders will head for the second span, the Attitash Aerial Zip, and ride over 2,100 feet to the base of Attitash Mountain. More information, including ride restrictions, rates and Frequently Asked Questions, are available at attitash.com. Reservations to ride the ZipTour are highly recommended and can be made during operational hours by calling (603) 374-2665.

The new ZipTour is scheduled to operate weekends only, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (last ride out at 3 p.m.) through Columbus Day Weekend, along with the Nor’Easter Mountain Coaster, Alpine Slide, Airbag Jump, Slacklines and lift-serviced Downhill Mountain Biking. Attitash will also be hosting the 17th Annual Oktoberfest October 11-12 and mountainside lodging is available at the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel featuring quality accommodations, year-round heated outdoor pool and spas, fitness center and casual dining at EleVations restaurant. All rates and information can be found online at attitash.com or by calling 1-800-223-7669.
