The 5th and final race in the final week of the 2014 Flyover Championship Cycling Series happens this weekend in Canton, South Dakota, at the Canton Cycling Classic. Competitors in this “healthy lifestyle,” 5-race event that began in Iowa City in April will race in Canton Saturday, August 9th, and the awards celebration will cap the end of the race series and determine the 2014 Flyover Champions Sunday, August 10th, at Legacy Electronics.

Race teams are registered from several states including California, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Montana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. Canton Cycling Classic organizers anticipate more than 200 individual riders throughout the day’s events. Family fun activities are planned from noon to 8 p.m., including the free 1st Dakota National Bank kids’ race. Medals will be awarded and five youth bikes will be raffled. The Men’s Pro 1/2 Race will start at 7 p.m. at Kennedy Park in Canton.

Legacy Electronics Inc. CEO Jason Engle said, “Since our inaugural race in 2012, we’ve seen rider participation and the business and community support grow for the Flyover Series. Our sponsors have helped us expand and allowed us to recognize female athletes by providing a prize purse equal to the men’s. And we’ve added activities and a new juniors-age (10-15) race category to create a wider appeal to all ages as well.”
