LEKI’s New SpeedLock 2 External Pole Locking System Receives Prestigious TÜV Süd Certification

LEKI remains the only trekking pole company to be certified by TÜV Süd

All LEKI poles featuring the new SpeedLock 2 external pole locking system, including their folding poles, have received certification from TÜV Süd, a world leader in providing testing and certification to international quality and safety standards and directives. Although not the first time receiving TÜV Süd certification (SLS and the original SpeedLock have also been certified), LEKI is proud to remain the only pole company to pass the rigorous testing process set forth by the global certification company.

Trekking poles tested by TÜV Süd must meet or exceed the following general criteria: a minimum compression force on the locking system of 120lbs + and continuous loads of 55lbs+ at least 100,000 times; pole shaft side load force; non-toxic production processes; and strap strength.

“With most of our 2015 trekking pole line featuring the new SpeedLock 2, we are proud to hang our hats on this certification from TÜV,” said Greg Wozer, VP of LEKI USA. “We’re also proud to be the only trekking pole company to meet, and in our case exceed, the testing criteria and ultimately receive certification.”

A streamlined version of the original external locking system that set a precedent for strength back in 2012, SpeedLock 2 is now 33 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter, yet 20 percent stronger than the original. Almost flush with the shaft itself, SpeedLock 2 features a machined aluminum clamp ring which prevents the mechanism from stretching and significantly decreases any future chance of lock failure. The locking lever is effortless to open and close, even with gloves or mittens in wet or icy conditions. With its reduced size, not only does SpeedLock 2 shave ounces from the overall pole weight but also greatly improves swing weight which can aid in the quickness and accuracy of pole plants.

LEKI will showcase SpeedLock 2 on 18 models in their spring 2015 Trekking Pole line, mostly of which will be an update to the existing poles in the Micro and SpeedLock series, but will also include two brand new models, the Legacy and Legacy Lady. The starting price point for SpeedLock 2 will be offered at a suggested retail price of under $100 (MSRP $99), a major highlight for the new locking system. Visit LEKI at booth #23042 at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market to view the line.
