In addition, they will be sponsoring the 2014 Gibbon Slacklining World Championships, where competitors will be wearing adidas Outdoor footwear including, the Slack Cruiser, Climacool Boat Sleek or Boat Slip-on Sleek.
adidas Outdoor, the athletic brand in the outdoors, includes a wide range of apparel and footwear designed with proprietary performance technology for outdoor pursuits including hiking, climbing, trail running, water sports and slacklining.
“Adventures NYC is a perfect way to showcase adidas Outdoor to new consumers and to introduce them to the sport of climbing,” said Greg Thomsen, managing director, adidas Outdoor U.S. “We are focused on the next generation of outdoor athletes and are dedicated to inspiring more young people to get outside – what better place to do that than in the heart of New York City?”
Slacklining originated in the climbing world and can be traced back to climbing camps in Yosemite in the mid 1970s. Participants balance along a narrow, flexible piece of webbing, typically anchored between two points. It has evolved into a cross training, sport if its own.
The 10th anniversary of Adventures NYC is presented by Backpacker magazine and NYC Parks. To celebrate this milestone, Adventures NYC is expanding to two days, the second of which is taking place in Marine Park, Brooklyn, where attendees can try water-based activities. Adventures NYC kicks off with an official downtown dribble with the New York Liberty. In addition, opening events include the New York Knicks groove truck, a mobile truck providing Knicks fans with tickets and merchandise giveaways, wheelchair basketball, biking, outdoor gear exhibits, and free bike valet parking and fitness classes with Shape Up NYC taking place in Central Park.
