BASE Jump from Newark Parish Church Spire

Footage of a recent BASE jump has recently surfaced, showing a group of extreme sports athletes leap from the spire of the Newark Parish Church located in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. Because the jump was carried out at night, the video is a bit difficult to see. The distance from the spire to the ground was just 210 feet, making it an extremely risky and technical jump.

According to the Daily Mail, five jumpers were involved in the stunt, all of whom have been practiced in the sport for five years or more. Despite their experience, police have launched an investigation, saying the jump was “dangerous.” However, one of the jumpers said extensive planning was put into the jump.

“We’ve all been jumping for five or more years. We all come from experienced skydive backgrounds and lots of us also have climbing or mountaineering experience,” he said. “We spent two weeks visiting, studying the movements of the town center itself, what times the pubs closed, wind directions and studying turbulence around the tower.

“We are the first people ever to do it and for us that was part of the attraction because it was a unique object to jump from. It was spectacular up there and the view of the town was fantastic.”
