Video: Olympic Luger, Jimmy Kimmel Pull Wolf Prank

Olympic luge athlete Kate Hansen uploaded a video to YouTube on Wednesday that featured a wolf roaming through the hallway of her temporary residence in Sochi, Russia.

The video, which Hansen published with the simple description, “I’m pretty sure this is a wolf wandering my hall in Sochi,” followed by an accompanying tweet, has garnered more than 1 million views.

It turns out, the video was a prank.

Jimmy Kimmel teamed up with Hansen to pull off the hoax, which fooled almost everyone. On Thursday, the athlete appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live via Skype to help explain how they executed the joke.

Surprisingly, for an 18-second video, a lot went into the process. Kimmel had Hansen take a photo of the outside of her dorm room, and the scene was then recreated in his studio. The next task was to find a real Timber Wolf mix—one named Rugby was employed.

“Honestly, there was a little more backlash than I thought there’d be,” said Hansen said, according to For the Win. “Security started freaking out, because technically there was a breach. You know, athlete safety. It kind of went a little crazy over here.”
