First Command Financial Services announced today a donation of $50,000 to become a major sponsor of the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon, continuing the company’s proud history of supporting “The People’s Marathon.”
About 30,000 runners are expected to take part in this year’s marathon on Oct. 27 in Arlington, Va. And First Command’s sponsorship dollars will support several popular elements of the annual event.
First Command is the presenting sponsor of the MCM Carbo Dining In, the annual pre-event pasta dinner at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, and MCM Forward, the satellite marathon event for deployed military. Last year, MCM Forward locations included sites in Afghanistan, the USS New York, Kuwait, Turkmenistan and Abu Dhabi.
First Command will also participate in the marathon’s Health and Fitness Expo, a three-day event that is expected to attract more than 100,000 runners and visitors.
“As a company founded by military personnel in support of military families, First Command is proud to be a continuing part of this popular military sporting event,” said Scott Spiker, CEO of First Command. “We look forward to, once again, witnessing the tens of thousands of cheering fans lining the course, as runners make their way through our nation’s capital. Since our first sponsorship of the marathon in 1998, we have viewed our support of this event as a clear demonstration of the sense of partnership we feel with all of the armed forces.”
