The primary focus of the Custom Product Developer is to take a custom product from a 2D design to a 3D product.
Coordination of the product development process is performed by:
- Meeting calendar deadlines to ensure that products are “delivered” on time.
- Maintaining gross profit goals by planning and controlling item costing.
- Meeting design, function and quality goals as outlined in brief and design packages.
Job Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Product Life Cycle Management Systems and PC applications including MS Office and Adobe Illustrator.
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years product development experience.
- Understanding of design and development process from inception through production.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation.
- Demonstration of a high level of organization in the product development process with experience in international markets.
- Understanding of the Vision Concept as it relates to Pearl Izumi and Product Creation.
- Understanding of the Pearl Izumi brand and Shimano brand in the “Big Picture”.
- Understanding of the details of the product creation process and necessary tools needed.
- Demonstrated successes in consistently bringing 2D designs to production ready status in a timely manner, with a high level of quality.
- Experience with International Travel in order to develop product with partner factories.
- Desire to excel further in the Apparel field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in specification writing and maintenance, costing, working with internal and external partners, and all other aspects of product development.
- Ability to be self motivated, and work with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsibility and ownership of the product creation process from design hand-off to size run ready for assigned products, with an emphasis on quality product development and timely completion of all tasks in accordance with the operating calendar.
- Complete management, creation and revision of Specification Sheets for assigned styles.
- Review prototypes for quality, execution, and fit, and provide information to factories in order to make necessary changes clear and organized.
- Manage communication with designers and marketing personnel in order to guarantee a proper style and fit. Provide detail product information on the styles.
- Suggest solutions to pricing concerns and ways to enhance the product.
- Use of discretion and judgment when making decisions during the product management process from inception through completion.
- Problem solving to bring innovative designs and new constructions to fruition.
- Working with sample sewers and patternmakers for rapid prototyping.
- Use of Adobe Illustrator to modify sketches during the development phase.
- Communicate and coordinate all necessary information that supports on time delivery for all assigned styles.
- Translate design vision and consumer needs into assigned products.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships within the Custom team and with external vendors and customers.
- Ensure that new projects are engineered in accordance with cost targets (pre-costing and final confirmation).
