    Plastic Engineer

    Responsibilities:

    Complete assigned projects, establish goals, develop specific activity plan, coordinate work assignments, gather and present results. Identify opportunities for new technology and the benefit of their application to production. Analyze production floor gaps of design vs. actual run condition of equipment and process. Identify gaps, develop and complete improvement activity, and coordinate with Manufacturing. Analyze control systems on the floor for failure points, improve system and coordinate activity with Manufacturing. Identify variables of process in injection application and plastic material used, and design soft side and hard side countermeasures to reduce variable and coordinate activity with Manufacturing. Support and design technical training for associates. Work with category leaders to include improvement items into business plan. Develop New Model molds and introduce into mass production. Benchmark other facilities to establish best direction and report findings.

    Daily Tasks:

    Work “hands-on” with production associates to resolve various problems and insure an efficient operation. Work on assigned projects. Complete tasks developed from analysis activity. Provide technical support, line management, and associate training and development. Work together with the Quality Department to countermeasure issues. Improve fit/finish through process.

    Experience:

    Minimum of three years experience with plastic injection equipment/process control, plastics material development, and project management.

    Knowledge:

    Understanding of plastic materials development. Understanding of plastic injection equipment process control development. Understanding of how to establish soft side procedures to support control of manufacturing associates in the injection process. Knowledge of test measurement methodology as related to the problem. Basic understanding of Injection Mold mechanics and preventive maintenance. Complete understanding of operating injection molding machinery. Practical and theoretical troubleshooting skills for injection molding.

    Required Skills:

    • Strong computer skills with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
    • Presentation capability and experience.
    • Plastic Injection process troubleshooting and equipment adjustment.
    • Lead and train mold setters, production associates, and process technicians.
    • Project management skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Able to work as a team member, listen to others, and gain consensus for direction.

    Desired Skills:

    • Prior experience with injection equipment startups and new model changeovers.
    • Prior experience in presentation methods and techniques.
    • Previous experience with injection mold development.
    • AutoCAD/Catia manipulation ability.
    • Participation in plastics material development projects.
    • Automotive injection molding experience.

    Degree:

    Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
