    Wave Sport’s 2014 Sponsorships Show Commitment to Whitewater Kayaking Community

    Dedicated to all things whitewater, Wave Sport, the premier whitewater kayaking brand, is sponsoring a lineup of core paddling events, films, expeditions and organizations for 2014, including the competitive GoPro Games in Vail, an exploratory kayaking trip in Sweden, and numerous American Whitewater fundraisers throughout the year.

    “For decades, Wave Sport has been a leader in the whitewater kayaking community, so being involved with this year’s top competitions, adventures, and initiatives is a huge priority for us,” said Jessica Prescott, marketing manager for Wave Sport. “We are excited to be sponsoring the top freestyle showdowns and intense kayak expeditions that to help push the sport to the next level. We are also proud to be supporting organizations that introduce kayaking to younger paddlers and injured war veterans, and make whitewater kayaking accessible to more people.”

    Whether it is showcasing innovative kayak designs and supporting Team Wave Sport athletes at the top competitions, creating instructional freestyle kayaking videos for aspiring playboaters, or helping protect rivers, Wave Sport will have a hand in making the upcoming kayaking season one to remember.

    Wave Sport 2014 Sponsorships Include:

    Events

    GoPro Mountain Games – (June 6-9, 2013). The GoPro Mountain Games, held in Vail, Colo., is the nation’s largest celebration of adventure sports, art, and mountain culture. This year, Wave Sport is set to sponsor the Kayak Freestyle competition and Wave Sport athletes will be competing in whitewater events throughout the weekend. This year, Wave Sport will have a booth at Gear Town with the latest freestyle, downriver, and creekboat kayaks on display, and Wave Sport athletes will be competing in whitewater events throughout the weekend.

    Expeditions

    Arctic Paddling in Northern Sweden – Team Wave Sport athlete, Tyler Curtis will leading a group of kayakers to explore the numerous rivers in the northern region of Sweden in the Kebnekaisa Mountain Range. This area north of the Arctic Circle in Abisko National Park offers abundant whitewater that has yet to be kayaked. Curtis’ team will spend two weeks in Sweden, scouting and accessing the headwaters of these rivers by helicopter, and navigating first kayak descents throughout the region.

    Films

    Study of Whitewater Geology – This video series by Team Wave Sport paddlers Sam and Max Ovett will follow the brothers around the Southeast as they study the geology behind the environments that make the sport of whitewater kayaking possible.

    Organizations

    American Whitewater – Wave Sport is donating boats to AW fundraising initiatives throughout the season to support their efforts for conservation and restoration of whitewater resources. Events include Deerfield Fest, Feather Fest, and Gauley Fest.

    Team River Runner – Team River Runner (TRR), founded in 2004, works to provide healing through kayaking and the outdoors to veterans and active duty personnel who have been injured while serving our country. Wave Sport supports our troops and TRR’s efforts with a partnership to provide boats to those in the program and by helping promote awareness for the organization at several major festivals.

    Dare To Kayak – Based on the Salmon River, Wave Sport athlete Devon Barker helps youth learn to kayak and gain confidence and leadership skills through paddling. From the basic roll technique to running rapids Barker helps students master the techniques needed to succeed both on the river and off.
