It was October of 2012 when extreme sports athlete Felix Baumgartner traveled more than 24 miles above the Earth’s surface in a stratospheric balloon, opened the capsule’s door, and jumped.
Not only did he break the speed of sound while free falling to Earth, but he set three world records as well during the Red Bull Stratos jump—“the highest jump, the longest distance free fall, and the fastest velocity,” according to NPR, before landing in the New Mexico desert.
Right before the jump, he said, “Sometimes you have to be really high up to understand how small you are. I’m coming home now.”
Footage of Baumgartner’s jump was shot with seven HD HERO2 cameras from GoPro that were attached to him. Some of the footage was shown in a Super Bowl advertisement last Sunday, but the full video can be seen below.
