Deuter Drops into Avalanche Rescue Gear with New Line of ABS Packs

Building on its strong presence in the alpine and ski pack market, Deuter is launching a new line of ABS avalanche backpacks at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show later this month.

Deuter, a worldwide leader in technical backpacks for a variety of sport endeavors, is introducing four new designs of ABS packs. The packs combine Deuter’s ventilated Alpine Back System, which significantly reduces perspiration and enhances load control, with the field proven ABS self-rescue system.

Boasting ABS TwinBag technology, Deuter’s ONTOP series features two balloons on either side of the pack creating redundancy in the event of puncture during an avalanche. The integrated ABS unit uses a compressed atmospheric gas inflation system to fully inflate the twin 85-liter balloons in less than three seconds.

“ABS technology provides an added level of protection to skiers and riders in avalanche terrain,” said Christian Mason, Sales and Marketing Director at Deuter USA. “The ONTOP series of packs continues Deuter’s rich legacy of creating high-quality and feature-rich packs for alpine adventurers.”

With four sizes in the ONTOP collection, there is a size and fit for everyone. The ONTOP 18SL and 20 are low-volume packs for shorter ski tours, resort use, heli and cat skiing. The 28SL and 30 are perfect for when plans call for more storage when on longer outings. The SL packs are designed specifically for women and those with shorter torsos.

Although compact and slim, the packs in the ONTOP series are designed with safety and comfort in mind. Features include diagonal and vertical ski carry straps, snowboard compatibility, secure metal hip belt fasteners, dedicated shovel and probe compartments, zippered waist belt pockets, optics pockets, tool loops, zippered internal valuables pocket and hydration compatibility.

Outdoor Retailer Winter Market is held Jan. 22-25 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. Deuter will be in booth #3001.
