Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

Photographer Chris White’s wife and son were swept off Kamehameha Highway in Oahu, Hawaii by a giant rogue wave. The wave pulled them out to sea just as 43-year-old pro surfer Kelly Slater was passing by on the same stretch of road. Slater rushed to save the woman and child from the water, and he was able to pull both of them to safety.

Mr. White later posted this sincere thank you to 43-year-old pro surfer on Instagram.

So thankful the surf gods denied @kellyslater today cos for whatever reason he was right there to save my wife and kid who were swept across a road by a freak wave today. Forever grateful to the great man and so thankful my family is alive and safe 👊🏼 ❤️💙 Thanks to all the lifeguards too who saved many lives today.
