So much for the belief that sharks avoid shallow water. Apparently, if they’re hungry enough, they will follow prey anywhere, even to shore. At least that’s what happened in this recently-released clip by YouTube user Brian Recker.

Last Thursday, Recker and a group from One Harbor Church were visiting Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina when more than 100 sharks swarmed the shoreline.

According to the description, the sharks seemed to have followed a school of blue fish that had been trying to escape their clutches.

The video only lasts a little more than a minute, but Recker said the feeding continued for at least five minutes, with seagulls and pelicans swooping in to cash in on the leftovers.

The scene is pretty incredible, with fins and feathers flying in every direction. About a minute in, a few overzealous sharks even become beached, but somehow they work their way back into the surf.

Recker also includes an explanation in the description that claims, “Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.”

    Sure.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not planning to dive in anytime soon.
