101 Female Skydivers Set Record in Russia

High above the town of Kolomna in Russia, 101 women gathered to break a national free fall record and pay tribute to a fallen friend. Calling themselves the Pearls of the Sky, the all-female team jumped from several planes to form a “flower” pattern in mid-air. The team held Russia’s previous record at 88 participants and was at the time led by Irina Sinitsina, who died last year during a free fall in California. According to the Telegraph, the skydivers purposely left an empty space in the middle of the flower formation in remembrance of Sinitsina.
